Our Service Area
We serve socio economically backward and tribal districts of North Gujarat (Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Banaskantha) and South Rajasthan (Dungarpur, Banswara and Udaipur) of western India.
Terrain is hilly. It is mainly populated by schedule class, schedule tribe & other backward classes. MLA seat of Idar reserved for S.C. while those of Khedbramha and Bhiloda are reserved for S.T.
Winter is comfortable but summer is very hot temperatures reaching up to 49-50°c. Rainfall is scanty & area prone to draught.
Due to poor rainfall and lack of irrigation agricultural production is not satisfactory.Deforestation and lack of industries and inadequate education has left people unemployed. Animal husbandry and Agriculture are mainsources of livelihood.
Superstitious beliefs, and wrong tradition are common. Social inequality and gender discrimination is quite prevalent.
In 2006 the Min. of Panchayati Raj named Sabarkantha as one of the country's 250 most backward districts It is one of the six districts in Gujarat currently receiving funds from the BRGF.
Scenario of Health Care
- Lack of nutritious food, safe drinking water and hygienic habitat added by smoking, tobacco chewing and alcoholism make them vulnerable to diseases.
- Poor public health care facilities compel them to depend on private sector for medical needs which is very costly and many a times it is big cause for their poverty.
- Due to government efforts maternal and infant mortality is diminishing and some infectious diseases are brought under control but along with common aliments skin diseases and non communicable diseases i.e. Hypertension, Diabetes, Cancer and blindness are posing challenge. Similarly morbidity and mortality due to trauma is rising.
- Though in Gujarat government has built many PHCs and CHCs but due to inadequate doctors especially specialists people depend on private sector for medical treatment.
- We serve without distinction of caste, creed, colour, religion, gender, region or ability to pay.
- Majority of beneficiaries are socioeconomically backward.
- 80% of OPD services are free and 85% of eye operations are also free.
- Our beneficiaries of general health services cover north Gujarat and South Rajasthan
- Majority beneficiaries of Eye Care belongs to north Gujarat
- Mobile medical Units serves 105 distant tribal villages of Khedbramha and Vijaynagar talukas.
