Blood is a life force for every single person on the planet, the need for blood is universal. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that for a nation to meet its blood requirements, a minimum of 1% of the population should donate blood. Despite the technological advancements, there remains no alternative to blood.Ensuring universal access to safe, adequate and quality blood product is critical for fulfilling India’s Universal Health Coverage. One unit of blood can save three lives.
Blood transfusion services (BTS) are used for wide-ranging medical procedures like organ transplants, trauma surgeries, and illnesses like cancer, hemophilia, and thalassemia among others. Easy access to safe blood is also vital in reducing the mortal maternity rates (MMR). Reports suggest that post-partum hemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal deaths worldwide. Further, around 38% of total maternal deaths in India can be attributed to PPH.
Blood collection from voluntary non-remunerated Blood Donor is the cornerstone of a safe and sufficient Blood supply and Blood Transfusion Service should look towards achieving 100% Voluntary Blood Donation, reducing dependence on Family/ Replacement Donation and eliminating paid donation.
We established blood storage centre in 2006 but due to many technical reasons we converted it into blood bank in May 2016. As per recommendation of GSBTC we added facilities for separation of blood components in Jan 2022
This area is tribal and backward. People refrain for donating voluntarily. Even when their close relative needblood they hesitate to donate blood. We are trying hard to get rid of the myth but it will take time to succeed. We are actively trying to organise blood donation camps in villages. At present we provide 2500 units of blood to all the hospital in Idar and near by towns. Hope it will double in next few years.
